| State of My Nation |
[Jul. 27th, 2009|11:12 am] |

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
Those were the last words uttered by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in her ninth and supposedly final State of the Nation Address. Even with the expected verbal and physical demonstrations by rallyists who hoped to either express undying support or extreme disappointment in the Philippine government, the highly anticipated and overly criticized speech of our head of state was delivered rather successfully.
Just like any other political statement, public appearance and media-hyped news, it did not fail to stir up opposing opinions and conflicting ideas about the so-called "real" situation of the country. While certain sectors of society hailed and praised the stated accomplishments of the president, other groups belittled and attacked every bit of information uttered by the president.
For almost a decade, thousands of Filipinos have questioned and verbally assaulted the government, specifically the president due to particular claims about graft and corruption issues, work negligence and inadequate response to social issues. Until now, they complain about the lack of healthcare services, educational projects, infrastructure developments and a billion other undeniably important issues which affect the average Filipino.
Looking at government-produced charts and graphs, certain parts of the country and particular issues are being responded to quite well. However, the same kind of information with a different outcome appears in the facts and figures board gathered by independent analysts. Clearly, it's difficult to have a definite and realistic view about the "real" state of the country due to the controveries which surround each goverment-researched data and every so-called questionable information given by third party intellectuals. Perhaps, there are developments and innovations. Probably, they're just not massive or widespread enough for every Filipino to see first-hand.
I'm not taking sides.
I cannot provide a certain or absolute viewpoint that is beyond contestation. Everybody can believe what they perceive to be real. There is nothing wrong against standing up for what you believe in whether you write a book, rally all day long or convene with country leaders endlessly. However, what many fail to realize is that one person does not deserve the blame for an entire country no matter how corrupt or incompetent that individual may appear to be in the eyes of certain groups in society.
Assuming, but not conceding that a particular government official regardless of position fails to adhere to the law or figuratively unleashes a country-wide hellfire, not every single problem in existence can be traced back to that person. All the difficulties and head-splitting issues that the Philippines faces today did not surface out of nowhere or come about because of a single individual. They probably dug deep into society throughout the years due to insufficient proactive response from the masses, possible over-dependence, a hopeless mindset a lack of discipline.
If the so-called fraud leaders Filipinos elected themselves step down from power, get replaced or even get brutally annihilated, positive change still cannot be guaranteed unless every single Filipino acts toward it. Given the battered culture and political intoxication that the Philippines experiences now, it is possible that a new set of incompetent leaders can take the reigns of the country if we don't act responsibly. As the King of Pop once sang, "If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make that change."
Until I stop seeing Filipinos die because they cross the road without using the overpass, I won't completely believe that they desire to have disciplined leaders. Until I stop knowing about Filipinos who go to rallies they have no idea about because of a P500 offer from famous politicians, I won't whole-heartedly consider accepting their so-called passion for social change. Until I stop hearing Filipinos pass the buck to the nearest poilitician, random stranger or even fate, I won't totally accept that they want to be part of tomorrow's call for hope.
Several campaigns have already been launched and hundreds of organizations have been founded to promote the idea of self-actualization tempered with a real desire to make a positive transforming difference. I salute them. Everyone's tired of watching the same old story of bickering and power struggling. If you want something good done, stop whining and just do it yourself. You'll be surprised to know that so many people are just as pissed off about the current situation of a particular sector of society and are now ever-so-willing to help out.
I don't claim to know everything there is to know about the government, politics, social dynamism and all other complex studies regarding the world that we live in. All I know is that I don't want to spend the rest of my life waiting for a legendary leader or a blinding miracle from heaven to save my country from hitting the bottom of every negative list that exists. It's time for us to acknowledge our responsibilities and take action, not for pride, honor or fame, but for the pure intention of making life better for every single Filipino.
The state of my nation is that of a country that desperately needs its people to individually act positively and responsibly with every single Filipino for a common cause with nothing but the desire to improve every aspect of human life.
I'm starting with the man in the mirror.
Dex, signing off.

| Fifteen :) |

THE RULES
- Write something about 15 different people.
- You can NOT say who they are.
- If someone asks you which one is about them, you can NOT tell.
- Tag 15 or more people who you think would do this too.
- You don't have to tag the people you wrote about. ( But I did XD )
- Try to be as neutral as possible.
1. Ready for another match? I need my tag team partner again. We're all set for another round. Three straight years in a row. Now that's a record. It's going to be one hell of a post-graduation party. Ready for the 1..2..3? Rock on! :)
2. It's been three years and you're still the same person I learned to love. Thanks for everything that's been, is and will be. High school wouldn't have been as fun and memorable without you. You're the one person who gets me more than anyone else. All the way beyond college, alright? Oh, and I love my new name. It's owsom. Thank you :)
3. We're the last stand of the alpha blue-bloods in the maroon field far away. It's just great to know that my best buddy in high school's still going to be around. It's going to be a whole different game. Still, the players still know how to play well. You know what I mean. You taught me well. To the next eight years, cheers! *clink* :)
4. We've seen it work perfectly before. Trust me. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. As promised, it'll be like forever on the dance floor. The whole thing may feel like insomnia, but that's normal. You know how I roll, right? And wow, you're an incredible party person. I miss you so much. I'll see you soon, alright? As usual, take care :)
5. I've been thinking about it, and yeah, I do. All that matters now is how everything else falls into place. The whole world agrees and everyone's been making me think about it, not to mention, actually do it. I didn't want to jeopardize everything that's why I haven't done anything for so long. I wasn't sure. Now I am. Are you? :)
6. High school's been extremely crazy. It's amazing that after all the complex political warfare, the lethal race which almost destroyed everything, the conspiracies tempered with controversies and the deadly mind games, we're still great friends. Never tokenistic, always real. Always have been. See you in a few years, alright? :)
7. I know I tease you all the time about the whole childhood love story thing, but you're one of the sweetest and nicest people I've ever met in my entire life. Sorry for putting you under the spotlight and on the hot seat last time. Still, you never fail to make me laugh whenever we hang out. Catch my drift? Fo' shizzle! :)
8. Here's to the night! I've known you for less that a year, but honestly, it feels like I've known you for such a long time. It's nice that once in a while, we get to take a step back from all the hassle of school and just talk about anything in the world. Oh look, we never got to fix up that cross-training. Oh, well. Kick ass in the States! :)
9. Look, even if I'm leaving the high school, I can still be your older brother, alright? You've got a long way to go. Just enjoy every moment of it. Trust me. Before you know it, it'll be over. Of course, you'll always have your eternal kuya to help you with anything anytime. Be cool. Be hot. Be weird. High school's just four years. :)
10. You still owe me a drink, remember? A bottle of water or a can of soda's good enough. It's been almost a year. We seriously need to chill soon. I still have to get back at you for torturing me during my retreat. Come on. A hundred staples is just pure EVIL. Kidding. You know I love ya. :)
11. It's been quite a while since we had our last "update" talk. The truckload of things to do finally caught up with us. Now that high school's over, we have plenty of time for those random hyperactive moments. And fine, I'll stop calling you "commander." It so doesn't reflect how sweet you are. Hey, tell me about my future blockmate! :)
12. After many failed attempts, you finally made me switch to Globe. Wow, your convincing power's off the charts then. Still, that doesn't take away the fact that I'm taller than you. HA! Kidding. You're one of the most sabaw, but lovable people I know. Maybe that why we get along so well. Excited for college much? :)
13. To my sweet-talkin', smooth-movin', flash-stylin', profilin' partner in crime, do not go crazy in college. Well, I know that's practically impossible for you to not do, but still. I know you too well. Just take it easy and go with the flow. You've always been an ass, but you're one hell of a friend. See you in med school! :)
14. I know you mess with me about it, but thanks a lot. You really helped me fix everything up completely. You've given me a whole new perspective and the perfect game plan. If this works out, it's going to be simply epic. Hey, it's not my fault that I got along well with the right people, right? Told ya you're that great. Cheers! :)
15. You. Me. Summer. Now. We really need to hang out again. It's been quite a while. Let's go somewhere cool or just do anything fun in general. There are so many exciting things to do during the break and we shouldn't miss those chances to relax and unwind, really. I'm up for it whenever you're free. Are you game? :)
*If you think you're one of the 15, then you probably are. I tag you :)

| Valentine's Day 2009 |
[Feb. 14th, 2009|10:36 am] |
|
Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life... You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like 'maybe we should just be friends' or 'how very perceptive' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you- and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love. Then again... Let me say, Without hope or agenda, Just because it's Valentine's And on Valentine's you tell the truth, To me, you are perfect, And my wasted heart will love you Forever. |

Will there be many unknowns in this entry? :) The four-day weekend was exactly what I needed... But I really didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted... Although Macau was still amazingly refreshing and thrilling... I wasn't really able to stop my head from thinking... I was worried about someone and someone else... I was excited about something happening to someone... I was scared about something which can ruin all else... I was confused about something and someone... I was eager about something fun... I was missing someone... Still, I loved the four-day weekend. It helped me think of things. A lot. Why the hell are there many unknowns in this entry? XD |

| Bad Case of Senioritis |
[Jan. 16th, 2009|07:53 am] |
|
For the past few months, I've gone through so many moments where I end up having the chance to walk alone and think about things. So what's next? What's going to happen? What the world just happened? Is it really time? How will everything turn out? Do I really have a choice? Will you still be there? I don't know. I always find it nice to just stroll and enjoy the day when there's nothing to do and nothing to worry about. Just relaxing and thinking about stuff makes me feel good. Call it emo, call it senti, call it whatever you want. I really couldn't care less what other people say. It's hard to explain what's happening. I want to end everything as soon as possible so that I can finally close another chapter of my life, but at the same time, I want everything to last a little bit longer. With less than thirty school days to go, I've finally been infected with Senioritis. With most of the college entrance test results released, it's inevitable that most people end up feeling that their last few days in high school are practically pretty useless. The whole idea that all we're doing now's just killing time before graduation and college starts to dig deep into our system. It's quite interesting, but I don't want to be part of it. I don't want to waste time. The Rewind Button's missing. The Fast Forward Button's gone. The Pause Button's barely working. The Playback Button's needs to be fixed. Right now, there's only real time and I don't want to miss the last few episodes. Watch the season finale with me? :) |

Speechless. Over the edge. :) A2009! We did it. From the incredible backdrop to the rockin' choir, the Christmas mass was perfect. All the late nights and hours spent on the cutting, pasting, rehearsing, Powerpoint-ing, setting-up and working in general paid off. Congratulations, guys! Kudos! Hope you guys enjoy the break! See you all soon, alright? Advanced Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We'll all probably cram all our schoolwork during the last few days of the break, but who cares right? Well, hopefully not. Until then, have fun, guys! Haha :) Christmas party? I guess our last Christmas party as A2009 went pretty well. Simple, but entertaining presentations were enough to light up the whole place. The Kris Kringle thing really made everyone go into the whole "Christmas gift-giving" zone. Oh, that reminds me. Thanks for the Christmas gifts, guys! :) The Christmas mass and the Christmas party combination was enough to make tonight perfect. But hey, it's a good thing that the night didn't end there. Happiness. Epic happiness. I really should've done the original set-up, but oh well. The night was perfect, regardless. Haha :) For now, I shall pack my things and head off to another vacation getaway! I'll try to get you guys something. Well, yeah, emphasis on "try." Kidding! Rock on, ya'll! Haha :) *The Ateneo night lights = AWESOME* "Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer Christmas." :) |

So this is how it feels like... A sweet PSDC's over. The 2nd term's almost done. It's another risk. With four months left before high school ends, I don't know. Should I? Too many things. Too many thoughts. Too many. Is it time? "Oh, look! A cookie! Yey!" I guess not. "I baked you a cookie...but I eated it" -Pon & Zi But still. Four's enough, right? You're call. "What if it doesn't work?" "What if it does?" :) |

| A "Special" Ordinary Day :) |
[Nov. 6th, 2008|10:36 am] |
|
Thank God. Legal. Finally. :) I don't usually have extremely amazing birthdays. Usually, they just pass like any other day with a little something extra sweet right before they end. Everything turns out great or terrible just like any other day. I have fun, learn stuff, chill, get scolded, go hyper, feel exhausted, write stuff down, sketch something, sound-trip, relax and live as I do everyday. I don't get super birthday surprises, I make them for my family and friends. I don't party out or have extravagant celebrations anywhere. I don't drown in expensive gifts or go through the whole birthday rush thing. They happen every year, just the way I like it, simple. It's just great that even with everything that's been happening in PSDC and school lately, people remember. Even for a short while, an ordinary day turned out special for me in one way or another. Here's to another special ordinary day! Cheers! :) Thanks for the greetings, ya'll! You all rock, I swear. :) First up, my awesome family with their whole poster barrage thing: Dad, Mom, Jeff & Philippe, thanks guys. :) Special Shout Outs to (in order): Krystella, Val, Ianagz, Bianca, Lexy Four Angels, Carlo L., Kenneth R., Ray, Daryl, VinSor, Angela, Marianna, Paige, Inah, Monina, Tita Baby, (Vince, Henry, Bas, JV, Clyde, Jovin, Seraps, Ben, Dan), Ea, Tabby, Chesca, Adelle, Nikki, Max, (Marianne, Elina, Tracy, Alyssa, Adie), Cara, Betina, Clara, Pat A., Ate Ercy, Gabi V., AJ, Em-J, Renz, Miggi, Lianne, Grace A., Gio, Micah, Demy, Paula K., John V., Mela, Ceejaye, Kim A., Joey F., Carlo F., Binx, Kristine S., Kristine L., Patrick, Bidin, Kenneth E., Jessica B., Kevin C., Marco, Armando, RA, Peps, Tommy, Tram, JJ, Anton A., Kamai, Kimberly G., Jino, Triciah, Gabo ...and to everyone else who greeted :) If you greeted and I wasn't able to list you, I'm super sorry. I'm extremely sabaw right now after a whole day from PSDC. You know you're awesome anyway. Forgive me or if you want, nag me about it. Eitherway, it's cool. Haha. Thanks! See you all soon. Ingatz :) *The Barack Era begins. Rights! Finally! Haha =)) |

| (no subject) |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|10:08 pm] |
A whole month has passed and a lot of things definitely happened. For some reason, I just want to drain my head of everything that I've been thinking of lately. The battle against stress and workload continues. Haha. So yeah, let's start the countdown. Here I go:
1. Wow, it's been like a month since I've written anything here. What the hell? Am I THAT busy? Oh yeah, I forgot. I am. =))
2. Oh yeah! The Ateneo Blue Eagles are back on top as the UAAP Champs! Kudos! Man, this is so late. :))
3. Great, I still haven't lost my tendency to make surprises for people. I must think of something fun again. Yeah! :P
4. Only five months to go 'til the end of the year. I really need another shot at the brass ring. It's been too long. Haha :) 5. NASHDC was EPIC. IDeA was hella fun. PSDC may be the last one before I decide to end it all. Redemption before the end. ;)
6. I swear, issues and controversies follow me all the time and everywhere. Demmet. Haha =))
7. The last time I've had enough sleep was.... ... .. .
8. I need to get my own ride soon. I mean, seriously. Oh, and yeah, another triple party in PSDC. Wohoo :P
9. Happy Birthday is like my favorite phrase for the months of October and November. Haha :->
10. I WANT SEMBREAK NOW. XD

Congratulations to Xavier for winning the Quartz, Woodrose for being the crowd favorites, Saint Scho for being THE friendliest contingent, Assumption Antipolo for making everything more interesting and everyone else for a fantastic tournament. I swear, even if I sound like a damn terminator right now because of five straight days of debating, I feel great. Haha. Thanks guys! See you all in PSDC :) ACET It's OVER! Thank God. 'nuff said. :)
Game Plan There's still a whole year ahead. There's still a lot to be done, a lot to change, a lot to improve in, a lot to make, a lot to break and whole lot of things to experience. With the college testing season coming to a close soon, all that's left for me to do is enjoy every minute left of my stay in the high school. Cheers! Here's to the night! :)
*Well, back to the stressful work board. Haha =))

There's so much to say thank you for, so much to be sorry about, so much to be hopeful for and so much left to be done with some of the greatest people I've ever met in my entire life. Three days has changed me in a way I can't really explain. When it all comes right down to it, the time we've spent together has made me realize that there are things in this life that can never be seen or heard, only felt.
We've been through a lot. It's just amazing to know that after so many years, there are now 36 more other people I can consider family beyond my own. Thank you for some of the best years in my life so far, and probably even as a whole. I know that the path ahead remains to be an enigma, but always remember this: I love in each and every one of you. In other words, you all rock. Don't ever change :)
In all the palancas I've written, there were three things that I always said.
Thank you. I'm sorry. Good luck.
And I meant them.
A not-so-silent silent retreat was something we all needed. I wasn't able to sleep at all, but I've never felt more awake about how valuable everyone in A2009 is and will always be. With eight months to go and a whole lot of crazy things left to be experienced, remembered and cherished, I say:
To the greatest part of the rest of our lives. Cheers!
-Dex :)
